We are committed to the abolition of nuclear weapons, the prevention of war, the promotion of non-violent means of conflict resolution and social justice in a sustainable world.
International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Canada is the national affiliate of IPPNW (Nobel Peace Prize, 1985) and a member of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) (Nobel Peace Prize, 2017).
We are committed to education and research about the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, militarism, and climate change.

Engaging Students in Health Sciences
We engage medical students and other students in health-related fields in discussions on nuclear war, conflict, and climate. Through mentorships, webinars, and our speaker series, we help the next generation of health professionals stay informed and get involved.

Promoting a Nuclear Weapons-Free World
A nuclear weapons-free world is essential to freeing up resources for the real issues facing humanity, such as the climate crisis. We promote the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) as a central goal — to abolish nuclear weapons and create true human security.

Climate Impacts of Conflict
Climate change is a threat multiplier. It drives environmental displacement, resource conflicts, and violence — all of which have profound health consequences. As health professionals, we have an obligation to examine every dimension of this issue, including from an Indigenous perspective.

Nuclear Power
Nuclear power has an unhealthy environmental footprint and direct links to the production of nuclear weapons. We do not believe it can solve the climate crisis. That is why we oppose plutonium reprocessing and redirecting new energy investment toward SMRs - rather than renewables.
Upcoming Events.
IPPNWC regularly hosts events to connect activists working in peace, disarmament, climate justice and healthcare to one another. We also welcome contributions from experts in these fields.

The national Not-the-Nuclear-Lobby returns to Ottawa from April 29-May 2, 2024!
Citizen groups from across Canada will meet on Parliament Hill to share important info MPs don’t usually hear about nuclear energy - for example, that building new nuclear reactors will delay climate action. Against the deep pockets and aggressive lobbying of the nuclear industry, activists from many communities counter with facts and the growing awareness that we need renewables now, not billion-dollar pipe dreams.

Why This Matters.
In the event of nuclear war, medicine has nothing meaningful to offer. Nuclear war remains the gravest threat to our planet. Prevention is the only response. As physicians and health professionals, we are committed to making it our cause.
